Registration of biocidal products

Special rules apply regarding registration of biocidal products. Some products fall under the requirements for pesticides and some products fall under the regular requirements for registration in the Product Registry.

You must register biocidal products in the Product Registry

If your company manufactures or imports biocidal products, you must register all biocidal products in the Product Registry. This applies to both biocidal products sold for professional use and for use in private households. However, biocidal products must be registered in two different ways depending on whether they fall under the regular requirements for registration or under the requirements for pesticides.

Registering biocidal products that fall under the regular requirements for notification in the Product Registry

Follow the guidelines for registration in the Product Registry if the products:

  • Are used for commercial purposes
  • Are manufactured/imported in quantities equal to or exceeding 100 kilo per year.

Registering biocidal products that fall under the requirements for pesticides

Follow the guidelines listed below for registering products in the Product Registry if the products:

  • Are only used in private households,
  • Are manufactured/imported in quantities less than 100 kilo per year.

Biocidal products must be registered in the Product Registry in accordance with the Ministry of the Environment’s Statutory Order on Pesticides. Registrations must be done online via OnlineAt. Under “new notification” select the type “Biocide”. PR-number will not be assigned.

When registering a biocidal product in the Product Registry, registration must include the following information:

  • Name/Company name
  • Address
  • Trade name of product
  • Use
  • Product type (in accordance with the Ministry of the Environment’s Statutory Order on Pesticides)
  • Chemical composition
  • Classification and labelling of the substance or material
  • Any suggestions for first aid in case of accident

For each individual ingredient in the substance or material, the following details must be provided:

  • CAS number
  • Chemical name
  • The active ingredient’s share of the substance or material as a percentage weight or as some other unit

Note, biocidal products must also be approved by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. If the product has already been approved by the Danish EPA you do not have to notify to the Product Registry. The EPA has done the registration for you.

Also, please note that some biocidal products for use in the food industry and agriculture, e.g. disinfectants, must be approved by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
